Sony MHCEC709iP Mini Hi-Fi Shelf System

A Stereo Bargain, (What's this?) Like most people point out, this stereo doesn't have a headphone jack. And if you want one, don't get this unit.
great radio, (What's this?)
Great Stereo, (What's this?) I am very pleased with this stereo. I was looking for something with a dock for my ipod that had good wattage and sound. Well this is it. I live in an apartment and for my living room this is perfect. The sound is terrific and it gives you a lot of options for different qualities of sound. It's not too small but it's good for a shelf. The color blue on the speakers is subdued and overall it has a nice look.
Sony Mini Hi-Fi Shelf System, (What's this?) This Is one of the best stereo system under $150 bucks. If you are looking for a great sound system for your house this is the one. The system is very loud, and clear. What i really like about it is that when you play it really loud it says clear. Those cheap stereo system that you buy for like $20 when turn them up really lound you can't understand anything. This is a very good sound system for the money. If you are thinking about getting it, go ahead you will be glad you did.
Great Product, (What's this?) This stereo is better than I thought it would be. I bought it for my 30' X 40' shop and this stereo is more than enough. I am not much on bass so I didn't buy the one with the sub., and the regular stereo without it has plenty of bass already.
I love it!, (What's this?) I do not really know much about stereos, so I have to do my research, and the reviews really help. This stereo is great! I bought it for my sewing room. It is a bit large for that, but it is perfect! and we can take it outside when we are entertaining. The sound is amazing - I couldn't be more pleased. I would definitely recommend this to someone else.
Worth the money...!, (What's this?) Actually ,,, it sounds great for this much,,, I was expecting it to be worst than what I've got,,,, If you think about it ,,, What could you get in same as this price ,,, nothing compare to it performance ,,, If you really need an extra bass stereo system ,,, with a cheep price ,,, then go for it ..
Like everything else, No headphone jack. But that isn't surprising because like everything else, it is made in China. They must have forgotten to put the headphone jack in or they were just too cheap to do so.....or they are afraid of recording capabilities through a
headphone jack.

And yes, a headphone jack is very important on these systems. A jack increases the what one can do with this radio.
Great buy! Don't listen to these negative reviews, This system is great. The only reason people are complaining about this system is because they didn't do the research before they bought the product, and I did. I'm currently in college in a Music Production program, and I bought these speakers to set up as my own "home studio." Everything you need to know is on the box, but for the people who complained about this, let me elaborate. The iPod dock ONLY, I repeat, ONLY works with a 2nd Gen iPod touch! If you don't have one and are buying it primarily for iPod connectivity, either don't buy it, buy a 2nd Gen iPod touch online (they're pretty cheap now), or be the smart person and buy an 1/8th inch to 1/8th inch cable (that means the headphone adapters), that way you can plug in your MP3 player, whatever it may be, without any complications. Note: make sure you get stereo, if you buy mono without looking at the details and only the price, you'll be disappointed, you need stereo so you can get the correct panning, mono won't do that. I actually have 2 different adapter cables, one for my laptop/iPad, the other for my TV, and it works great. Now, the speakers are actually really good, and I'm not surprised. The cables are thin, which isn't too good for the stability of the cable, but as long as you are careful with moving the speakers around then you're fine. I don't even move my speakers, they haven't moved since I got them (2 months ago) and I have had no issues. Now for the review about a headphone jack so you can plug your headphones into the system...look, if you buy a speaker system like this you shouldn't even think twice of plugging your headphones into it. It's a speaker system, either listen to your music over the speakers or over your headphones plugged into the device that has your music. If you plug headphones into a speaker system like this you'll just look like an idiot anyway so save yourself the embarrassment.

Now that I've talked about the other reviews, let me give you my opinion. These speakers are GREAT!!! They have great sound quality to them, it gets quite loud, and it's perfect for any application. I use it for listening to music, playing sound over my TV, and watching movies. It goes up to a volume level of 30, and I've used it on 13 with my laptop at full volume and my neighbors have complained about the booming sounds coming from next door. Everything is very simple to use, and it even has this DSGX setting.
I'm happy!!!, (What's this?) I am happy with my purchase. Before this, I had an RCA 5 disc player which would only play my cds once in a while. This Sony, while only 1 disc, plays whatever I want, whenever I want!!! It has nice sound and has not let me down yet...

Yamaha MCR-140LG Micro Component System (Light Gray)

Almost Perfect, (What's this?) Almost perfect for my Music Together class. But after having received it and looked through the instructions, I realized how the wireless remote would have worked, and wished I'd sprung for that option. But I love it. Great sound and easy to use. I like the red. Adds a touch of whimsy to my preschool classroom.
Great sound, (What's this?) I LOVE the sound coming out of my new Yamaha stereo. The sound truly is amazing for such a small system. It is well worth the money. My wife bought me the red, which I think is ok. At least she didn't get the pink! Really though, as long as SHE likes it then I am ok with it too since it is now in our kitchen/dining area and fills the area VERY well with great sound.
The only thing I would change is the ability to play and charge an external source other than apple crap.
Very Good!, (What's this?) I have been using this player for a few months now, and I must say that I am very impressed with the quality of the player.
Best part, I don't have to worry about complicated equalizers and other buttons. The sound quality is excellent even without the equalizer.
It has a very simple user interface and the ability to play from an external player such as my mobile phone or a simple USB memory stick and extremely usefull.

The orange color player goes great with my furniture (black) so I also like the host of colors that this device is available in.
Expensive is not always better . . ., (What's this?) I've had a problem with my Bose wave system ($450.00). Shortly after the warranty expired,
I started having problems with the functioning of the CD player. I would place a CD in the
player and it may or may not play. After trying to deal with the Bose service department and
the cost of repair, I started looking at other systems. I was very hesitant to spend another
    $450.00 on a Bose system.
I found the Yamaha MCR-040 and after reading the reviews, decided to purchase the
Yamaha. Much cheaper than the Bose system. Right out of the box I played a Chopin CD
and an Oscar Peterson CD. It was like taking ear plugs out of my ears. I was extremely
pleased with the quality of the sound for such a small system. I've had the system for a very
short amount of time and haven't made any adjustments but if all remains at such a quality,
I will purchase additional units for our guest room and my studio.
Expensive is not always better . . .
Outstanding bargain, (What's this?) Buy the Bose and pay double because of their expensive advertising campaign. Buy the Yamaha-- zero $ advertising-- save money and get a great sound system. The Yamaha has an additional advantage. From the picture, it may appear that this is one piece. Not so. The speakers stand alone (unlike the Bose) and the wires connecting them to the main unit are long enough to provide excellent separation. Rarely do I buy a product without some flaw. I have used the Yamaha for awhile now without discovering one.
Great bookcase stereo, (What's this?) Just received this -- original one was delayed in shipping and with an email Amazon sent out a new one at no charge.
I put it together in a few moment and with no adjustments have Les Miserables playing (at a fairly high volume, I might add..) and LOVE this micro componenet system. Great sound, no tinniness. I agree with others that the remote is pretty small (and it's a little annoying to have to control tracks and FM changes from the remote, but no biggie for the overall quality of this well-priced machine.) I haven't tried the ipod dock yet.
Will probably have a little challenge adjusting the radio antenna -- sounds great when I'm standing in front of it, but static when I move away, but will work on that.
    Very Impressive System, (What's this?)
Very nice unit, (What's this?) Have only owned it for 2 days. First I want to say that the photography of the product does not do it justice. Ordered the dark gray color and it is much better looking than the picture would have you believe. Everything about this product is quality. It looks, feels and acts like a high quality audiophile component. It's a little pricier than most other units but worth it. I looked at the Bose Wave but could not justify the price. For me this was a great alternative and it looks better! The sound is good - I've not yet used it enough to say more than that.

One minor negative is the cover for the ipod dock. It does not fit properly, I'm afraid to push any harder to get it to click into place, so I have it siting loosely on top. Most people will not want to cover the dock anyway.
    One Thing Missing, (What's this?)
Viper, (What's this?) I was looking for a small multi-input shelf system to replace a 12 year old Onkyo bookshelf system with an Aiwa sub. I needed iPod docking capability, good FM reception, CD player, decent sound and compact size. I tried another Onkyo shelf system then a Tivoli 1. Both of them were disappointing for a variety of reasons and returned. Then I researched this Yamaha product to some length.I am glad I decided to give this unit an "audition". I have to admit I was dubious when I first unpacked this unit and set it in it's current home in our kitchen / dining area. I was thinking there is going to be no low freq joy out of these little speakers . How wrong I was. First impression in the set up phase was that the system is well made and has a great appearance. I have the dark gray color. Ok, now to the real deal, the sound. To put this simply, the sound quality and volume imagery produced is quite incredible given the compact size of this unit. I guess the Yamaha engineers assigned on this product knew exactly what was needed to make this product a winner.

UNIREX URX-55DVD Micro Hi-Fi DVD with PLL Digital Stereo Radio and Cassette Recorder

broke down too soon. return was too expensive, (What's this?) I received this product in good time. It played well and then I didn't listen to music for a while. But when I did go to listen to it, the CD player wouldn't work. I contacted the seller and after a while they suggested that I return the unit to them. I had to pay for the return approximate $30. And then I never heard from them again. They never acknowledged that they received the item. I never spoke to them. I called and never got a call back.

I think they had a 90 day return policy. The CD player konked out on day 91. The LED display konked out before that.

The person who responded to my email was inappropriately nasty. His customer service skills were ugly. (kinda like that this is Peggy commercial. where the guy sounds like a man without a personality, working as a female customer service representative).

Thank goodness Amazon had to refund policy. These people were a nightmare to deal with.

JVC MX-GT80 GigaTube 3-CD Compact Stereo System

A decent compact stereo for casual use, Since I live with two other guys in a duplex, I don't have a lot of room for a big, high-end system (and as a student, I lack the budget to get one anyway). But I do require a certain quality of sound when it comes to my music. So I spent a number of hours shopping for a reasonable compact stereo system that had the features I was looking for (decent sound, ease-of-use, sleep timer, appearance, etc.). After checking out a number of systems, the MX-GT80 caught my eye, and I began to fiddle around with it.

My first impression was the relative quality of sound it put out. It's not at an audiophile level, but it was basically clean and powerful compared to the other systems I tested in its price range. I found the JVC easier to use as well, even though there are a number of controls and functions crammed on the front panel. The feel of the controls was adequate, and I was able to discern the basic functions fairly quickly without having to check the manual (a big plus). The system has an interesting look - sort of an "industrial" motif. I would have preferred something a bit more elegant, but it was acceptable for my bachelor decor. The remote keys are a bit small, but usable, and it controls all of the basic functions. However, some options still need to be accessed on the front panel, such as CD-repeat. Overall it seemed to fit my needs, so I went ahead and purchased it.

When I got it home, I was able to set it up quickly and easily - it fit quite well on top of my medium-sized dresser. I enjoy relaxing to Celtic-type music (Enya, Michelle Tumes, Eden's Bridge, etc.), and it plays my favorites nicely. Even at low volume, it seems to pick up and project the more subtle aspects of the music very well. I like listening to audio tapes or music when I hit the sack, and the sleep function works fine for that purpose. The time settings are at 10-minute intervals, but there is an abrupt jump from 30 to 60 minutes. I would have preferred more time increments, or the ability to manually enter the playing time. I have to echo an MX-GT90 reviewer's dismissal of the clock - mine actually loses time very quickly. But I didn't buy it for timekeeping, so that shortcoming doesn't really bother me.
Alot of deep bass, This thing is the best thing it has alot of bass and it makes alot of deep bass thats the bass makes everything shake. with its 360 watts you can hear it really far. Now that i put two bazzokas 10 inch my house is breaking apart. Also I just went to ... and none of the stereos there beat mine maybe because i put the bazookas but it is still great. If you like rap it will be the thing that you will love more.
JVC MINI SYSTEM MX-GT80, I WANT TO BUY IT BUT I LIVE IN LONDON UNITED KINGDOM.CAN YOU DELIVERY TO ME IN LONDON ANND HOW MUCH WILL BE DHE DELIVERY IN POUND PLEASE EMAIL TO ME AT ADI03UK@HOTMAIL.
    Nearly Unbeatable, By A Customer
If you were looking for a great stereo system that will fill your room with trembling bass, look no further. The GT80 will pound out any hip hop music you put in like no other - you will actually want to go out and buy more cds with the booming bassline after you get this thing fresh out of the package. Other music will also get a new edge to it: put in Drowning Pool's track 2 and listen to the beginning when it strikes a low - your room will rumble. But this is not all bass. I was surprised at how well the lyrics floated from this system, giving a good, even compromise. A complaint, though, is some of the guitars. I feel JVC should have put more definition into the mid and lowrange guitars...it almost appears more made for rap music than rock to me, but it is personal listening taste and only a small drawback considering there are two subs in this thing, not just small, regular bass speakers like some models. As others mention, the clock is a very tiring nuisance. There is no way to turn it off, for one: with that large display at night it lights a small room like a lowpower green flashlight. Two: in less than a week, it had become SEVEN MINUTES FASTER than my alarm clock-and I had set it for compensation TWO MINUTES BEHIND to start with. It is very annoying just for the sheer fact that after putting all this work into their Giga Tube systems, JVC couldn't get their clocks to work - one of the easiest things to do, I would think. In conclusion, it's a fine system you'll keep for a very long time without fear of finding one much better on the market. (Other than the GT90, but why spend so much more for just some more watts of boom?) This stereo is good for any room, and has a filling sound no matter what preset you have it on.
Another Winner, I've had this shelf system for about half a year and it continues to keep me happy. The base is INCREDIBLE for a 6 1/2 inch sub. The sound quality is better than most other systems I have heard, and trust me, I have heard them all. It has plenty of settings to change the sound, including 4 subwoofer levels. The only thing that irritates the hell out of me is the clock. It never keeps the right time. But other than that it is one of the best systems out on the market and I would recomend it to anyone.
JVC is coming up in the World, I have made the purchise of this product from JVC. I would recommend it to anyone wanting good crisp and powerful sound with plenty of great smooth bass. Overall it is an excellent system. For the money it is very good as well, considering I have tested all of the present Products from, Aiwa, Panasonic, Sony... This system far surpasses any of those I named for around the same price, it was even better than this Sony Model I tested which was about [$] more. For a boom box high out-put component system this is the best, by far. I have never been much of a JVC fan, but now a days JVC is making some of the best products. In Home Stereo's I would have to say they are one of the best. It's your money spend it how you would like, I'm just telling you what is good and what is not. Now if you are a Sony buyer go buy a Sony for the name, that is all you will be paying for is that big (SONY) symbol , in quailty Sony has really went down hill in the last 4 years. They use to be the Leader in everything they make, put now it seems they only make a few select items that are even worth paying the money for. A Sony Clock radio, there you go.
    Almost perfect, By A Customer
I had being looking for a good Mini system and this is the one. I compared this model with the JVC MXG50. Both of them have very nice features wich are described on buying info. All of them work great. I just had to listen to both mini systems to make a choice. When I first listened the JVC MXG50 I thought nothing could sound better but then I listened the MXGT80 and I had nothing more to think about. The sound is great. No extra power that you will never use, but powerfull enough for almost every taste. Really great bass output with 6 presents that work great. Works great with every CDR- CDRW I got. Really Hi-Fi. Full function remote. Both decks are auto reverse, etc..I gave 4 stars (should have been 4.5) because of some feature that could be better: - No way to turn the display off: When you locate the system in your room and want to go sleep hearing some music It will iluminate enough to be inconvinient.- Takes too long to change from one cd to another- Looks somehow cheap with all that lights coming out from itNothing much important. And at the end I don't think you can get something better for the price.
    ..., By A Customer
When I saw this system in the store, I just had to get it, especially after I heard the bass on this thing. The sound is just ideal for me, being a hip-hop fan. Just be sure to stay away from windows when you play cds with alot of bass- you could be dodging shattered glass!!! I mean this system even wakes up my nieghbors when the volume turned down. I even used the giga-tube to blow dry my hair the other day!! The features on the MXGT-80 are quite good, but I think they could of came up with more a variety of different sounds instead of just D. Club, Classical, and Stadium. Besides that the system is all I wanted in a stereo. I love that it also has the cd optical outlet for cd recorders. Now I can finally put my recorder to good use! I recommend this to anyone who wants to own a REAL boom box.

Yamaha MCR-040BR Micro Component System (Brown)

Yamaha, (What's this?) Does not play my I phone 4 and unite shuts down when installed, other then that huge miss ! it is great. brown looks real sharp and every thing feels top notch.
Worked beautifully . . . UNTIL . . ., (What's this?) First let me say that for the three months that this unit was functioning we were very happy with it. I echo the positive reviews about the sound, functionality and the look of the system.

However, we are now having the power problems described by other reviewers. The unit shuts down on its own at various intervals. Sometimes it will do it seconds after turning it on. Other times it will shut off after 10 to 30 minutes. It has been at the local Yamaha service center for over a month now. Yamaha has not issued a service notice about this problem, otherwise I would already have a replacement unit. As it is, the local techs are taking their time in troubleshooting it. As much as I liked the MCR-140 to begin with, I would not buy it again.
Very nice unit, (What's this?) Have only owned it for 2 days. First I want to say that the photography of the product does not do it justice. Ordered the dark gray color and it is much better looking than the picture would have you believe. Everything about this product is quality. Excellent sound, great price and very compact system, (What's this?) After searching high and low for a replacement book shelve system for my BOSE soundwave, ( which was a disappointment, since the cd player stopped reading cd's and the dock buttons wouldn't stayed pushed in), I came across this little system.
Because of its higher price, I read all the reviews from A to Z. I'm happy to report that I just got the Yamaha MCR-040 and it sounds great, same or even better than my old BOSE soundwave.
Very Good!, (What's this?) I have been using this player for a few months now, and I must say that I am very impressed with the quality of the player.
Best part, I don't have to worry about complicated equalizers and other buttons. The sound quality is excellent even without the equalizer.

The orange color player goes great with my furniture (black) so I also like the host of colors that this device is available in.

I wish it did not come with a iPhone dock.

    Cons:
Price - Seems a little high for the value. I guess that I am paying for the Yamaha brand name.
Can do with other external inputs in the back panel.
One Thing Missing, (What's this?) First thing first: the Yamaha MCR-040 micro system provides excellent sound for the money. The availability and ease of use of secondary features, such as Sleep function and Alarm function, merit a high mark as well As do the attractively designed and colored speaker and receiver boxes.
One feature, however, let me down. Like many such devices, easy access is provided for an Apple mp3. To use another mp3 device, one has to connect it through the available USB port.Alas, the Yamaha MCR-040 USB fails to recognize mine, even though the Sansa Clip+ is a higher quaility and deservedly popular device. The failure of this one not insignificant function prevents me from offering unqualified praise for the 040.
Expensive is not always better . . .

RCA RS2768I 5-CD System with iPod Dock

BEWARE!, We purchased 2 of these to begin with and neither one would work more than a few hours. One started smoking out of a speaker and the other one wouldn't open the CD drawer so we took them back to be replaced. One worked for 4 days but then the volume control wouldn't work without tapping it and the second one didn't want to open the CD drawer after the first use. Then after that the first one also wouldn't open the CD drawer. We had to dismantle both of them to get our CD's out. We are older people who have had other stereos that lasted for years and have never had the horrible experience that we have with these. It can't be a fluke that 4 of the same item wouldn't work.
boom box, (What's this?) I just needed a bookshelf type stereo system for my home and this seems to be working fine. The sound is good and I like the fact that it holds 5 CD's. I would purchase this product again.
awesome, RCA RS2768I 5-CD System with iPod Dock, (What's this?)
CD Changer stops working, (What's this?) I love the idea of playing cds. I have purchased this product twice and have had the same thing to happen both times now. The cd player works for a while and then just stops with the cd inside and you are left with now way to get your cds back. I tried working with the remote as well and still no luck.
Great sound and lots of extras, (What's this?) I am very satisfied with this product for the price. Has good sound and I like the iPod dock. Very simple t use and set up.
RCA System, (What's this?) Just what I was looking for. Sounds great. It is difficult to find a multi-CD player with an I-Pod dock.
Noisy Electronics and Overall Poor Performance, Very noisy electronics, meaning you can hear the motors for changing discs over the speakers, and also a constant backround hiss. (Actually sounds like an old tape player.) Takes a long time to "read" discs and had trouble reading older discs and some home-made ones (which we have never had a problem with on other players). Remote is also pretty useless - no numbers or disc selection, just volume and "skip" forward/backward for navigation. Kind of suprised RCA would put their name on something so poorly built.
Badass, (What's this?) This was the best radio I have ever seen!! The looks are good.
RCA RS2768I 5-CD System with iPod Dock - works great, (What's this?) I had a hard time deciding to buy this unit because there were 5 positive reviews and 5 negative reviews. Many claimed that the CD-changer breaks-down and swallows CD's - but my experience has been great! The CD-changer seems much improved over my earlier version of the RCA 5-CD-changer from 5 years ago! It is quiet and works well. To remove a CD, however, you may need to hit "Disk Skip" button on the remote, and this rotates the CDs around for removal. I'm betting some folks that claimed it "swallowed their CD" just did not read the manual about using this button to remove the CD's!

The iPod Dock works great - even with the new iPhone 4 and new Gen4 iTouch! This was info I could not verify in all the other reviews, so I hope this helps people who are considering this unit. I was also pleased to see that the remote control for the stereo can control the iPod functions! Very cool. I was also very pleased to see that RCA still includes the RCA-type (red, white) Aux-In jacks, and also a 1/8" headphone jack! Many manufacturers are leaving these details out. Additionally, RCA has added a 1/8" stereo Line-In jack as well. So there is plenty of I/O! I even used the jacks to amplify my iRig/Amplitube for the iPhone, and was jamming on my lelectic guitar right through the Aux-In. Sounded great!

I just received this unit this week, so I am hopeful it will hold-up to my experience this far! But it has everything I hoped for - and the sound is really good for a unit in this price range.
RCA CD System w/IPod Dock, (What's this?) This is an awesome system. Easy to use, good sound and simple to set up. I would recommend it for anyone who needs a small, compact unit with lots of features.
